Newly formed Night Time Industries Association puts out call to its industry and local authorities across the UK

Alan D Miller, Chairman of the recently formed Night Time Industries Association – which brings together bar operators, gig venue owners and especially club promoters and DJ representatives – used a keynote at the Brighton Music Conference this weekend to caution against new regulations and regulatory practices that could hinder the future of what is otherwise a booming sector – ie night time entertainment.

Soil Association Certification announces new chief executive

Soil Association Certification, the UK’s largest organic certification body, has appointed Martin Sawyer as its new chief executive. Martin brings a strong background in the food industry and is well placed to lead Soil Association Certification through the next phase of its development. Now is the time for business to engage apprentices

Having been ignored for decades, apprenticeships are back for good. According to the government, ‘over 2.1m people have started apprenticeships this Parliament, with a six-fold increase in higher apprenticeships started since 2009-10’. The number is planned to increase and there’s an apprenticeship voucher scheme on the way, scheduled for roll-out in 2017. In yesterday’s Budget from Chancellor George Osborne, the apprentice wage went up by 57p an hour to £3.30 – equivalent to an annual salary increase of over £1,000 for a full time worker.
