David Cameron seeks the best small firms in the land
In a move to encourage entrepreneurial activity and enhance its reputation among SMEs, the Conservative Party has launched a campaign to find the best small firms and entrepreneurs in the UK. Anyone can nominate their favourite local company, whether it’s a florist, grocery store, restaurant or marketing agency! Although there’s still a long way to go, our economy is turning a corner, according to David Cameron, and Britain’s small businesses can claim a big share in this revival. Small businesses are the lifeblood of our economy, says the PM, providing nearly half of all private sector jobs. And since 2010 we’ve seen over 300,000 of them start up.
Through its Supporting Small Business campaign, the UK government’s support of SME entrepreneurs ranges from Start-Up Loans to the New Enterprise Allowance for those who are unemployed and want to set up on their own.
While it’s not yet clear how the Conservatives plan to use the information gathered via the new online competition, it’s reasonable to anticipate that the winning companies will achieve prestige at both a local and national level.
“Entrepreneurship is at the heart of my vision for Britain: a nation brimming full of aspiration, jobs and opportunity – a country where everyone who works hard can make it in life,” said Cameron.
